Microchip Technology PCI11400C Single-Chip PCIe Switches

Microchip Technology PCI11400C Single-Chip PCIe Switches are integrated switches that combine a USB 3.2 Gen 2 host controller with programmable I/O. The Microchip PCI11400Cs PCIe physical interfaces include a 4‑lane (4×8GT/s) upstream port and a 1‑lane (1×8GT/s) downstream port. Designed for embedded systems requiring higher PCIe bandwidth, the device supports line rates up to 8GT/s. The upstream PCIe interface can operate over one or multiple lanes, allowing flexibility in system architecture. The PCI11400C delivers full PCIe compliance from the external PHY interfaces through the switch fabric and endpoint controllers.

The device supports PCIe Precision Time Measurement (PTM), enabling accurate timing exchange between components as defined in the PCI Express Base Specification, Revision 5.0, V1.0. PTM enables devices to synchronize local clocks with a shared time reference, known as PTM Master Time.

Integrated within the Microchip PCI11400C is a USB‑IF and xHCI‑compliant USB 3.2 Gen 2 host controller, providing: two USB 3.2 Gen 2 (USB Type‑C®) ports and three USB 2.0 HS/FS/LS (USB Type‑A) ports. USB Type‑C support includes management of the CC1 and CC2 configuration channels. The device also offers Overcurrent Sense (OCS) and Vbus Port Control.

A programmable pin multiplexer enables flexible mapping of I/O functions to package pins. Designers can use the default pin configuration or customize signal routing to fit specific application needs. Supported functions include USB‑related signals, GPIO, and SMBus, accessible through a dedicated PCIe Endpoint Controller. The PCI11400C requires multiple internal clock domains, which are all generated by an integrated clock farm. Externally, only a single‑ended 25MHz clock or crystal is needed, along with a PCIe reference clock.

The device presents itself to software through standard abstractions supported by major operating systems. The Microchip PCI11400C is offered in a 132‑pin VQFN‑DR package and is available across several temperature grades, including commercial (0°C to +70°C), industrial (-40°C to +85°C), and automotive Grade 3 (-40°C to +85°C).
