Vishay / BC Components SMD Polymer PTCs for Overcurrent Protection
Vishay / BC Components SMD Polymer PTCs for Overcurrent Protection are designed for use as resettable fuses for low-voltage overcurrent protection applications for industrial and consumer products. These polymer-based PTC SMD thermistors protect against temporary, infrequent overcurrent events and are UL 1434 and TÜV certified. The PPTC series offers ultra-low initial resistance with many values <1Ω and can be as low as 0.005Ω at +25°C. These PPTCs protect the circuit by tripping into high resistance during an overcurrent event, causing the PTC to heat up. Note that the PPTC expands slightly when tripped. The PPTCs return to a lower resistance (though not as low as the pre-trip resistance) once the fault is removed and the PPTCs cool.
Vishay / BC Components SMD Polymer PTCs for Overcurrent Protection are available in several sizes: 0603, 0805, 1206, 1210, 1812, 2016, and 2920. The parameters at +25°C include hold currents of 0.02A to 5A, trip currents from 0.06A to 10A, and maximum voltage ratings from 6VDC to 90VDC. These components operate in a temperature range from -40°C to +85°C, and the maximum surface temperature in the tripped high-resistance state is +125°C. Additional features include RoHS compliance with matte-tin plated terminals and a halogen-free design. The thermistors are laser-marked with an identification letter and packaged in 8mm tape on reels, sealed in a plastic bag. These PTCs are not intended for potting or sealing.
